About Pacific Anaesthesia

About Pacific Anaesthesia

Founded in 2016, Pacific Anaesthesia began with a clear purpose: to enhance the work-life balance of our members while elevating the anaesthetic experience for their patients. Since then, we’ve grown organically to over 40 members—a reflection of our strong culture, shared values, and commitment to excellence.

At our core, we are a group of exceptional anaesthetists delivering exceptional care. In a short space of time, we’ve evolved into a full-service anaesthetic group—offering not only trusted clinical care, but also professional support, transparent systems, and meaningful efficiency dividends that benefit all members.

With the best interests of our anaesthetists at the centre of everything we do, our guiding principles remain:

  • Service excellence second to none
  • Supporting members throughout their careers
  • Transparency in all operations
  • Camaraderie, networking, and professional development
  • Exploring opportunities that add genuine value
  • Supporting the communities in which we live and work

Together, our members and staff have developed an enviable reputation for professionalism, innovation, and care. We’re especially proud of initiatives such as:

  • A patient education campaign that helps patients understand the value of their anaesthetic care and the implications of their insurance
  • Clear, modern patient-facing resources that improve both experience and financial transparency
  • A strong culture of support, inclusion, and advocacy for sustainable private practice

While Pacific Anaesthesia is a selective group, we welcome interest from all specialist anaesthetists—whether you’re looking to cover occasional lists, ease into private work, or build a full-time private practice career.

Our focus remains on delivering outstanding value while preserving the traditional benefits of group practice: connection, flexibility, and trusted support. Pacific Anaesthesia offers a place to belong in the complex and ever-changing world of private anaesthesia.

We are also proud supporters of Lifebox, contributing to safer surgery and anaesthesia worldwide through our commitment to collective social good.

Working in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley

Nestled on the picturesque east coast of Australia, Newcastle exudes a unique charm that seamlessly blends urban sophistication with natural beauty. As a burgeoning metropolis, Newcastle offers an array of compelling reasons for individuals seeking professional growth, work-life balance, and a close-knit community. Many people come for short-term employment but never end up leaving.

Diverse anaesthetic career opportunities:

Newcastle has evolved from its industrial roots into a dynamic and diversified economy, making it a thriving hub for various industries. The city and surrounding regions continue to grow, equating to high demand for health care services. Newcastle and the Hunter Valley has five public hospitals anchored by the John Hunter Hospital as the major tertiary referral centre, with over 800 beds and the busiest trauma facility in New South Wales. Additionally, there are six major private hospitals as well as a small number of day centres. The case mix is just as diverse – with the exception of paediatric cardiac surgery, all subspecialties are represented throughout public and private facilities. The anaesthetic community is highly collegiate.

Relaxed Lifestyle and Stunning Beaches:

Work-life balance is more than just a catchphrase in Newcastle; it’s a way of life. With a laidback atmosphere and stunning beaches stretching along its coastline, Newcastle offers the perfect escape after a day’s work. Whether you want to catch some waves, take a leisurely stroll along the sandy shores or Bather’s Way, or simply unwind with the breathtaking ocean views, the city’s coastal lifestyle promises a tranquil respite from the hustle and bustle. Additionally, the Hunter Valley wine region , the beautiful Lake Macquarie , and the breathtaking Blue Mountains are all within reach for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Affordable and Simple Living:

Compared to major Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne, Newcastle boasts a more affordable cost of living and real estate. From modern apartments to charming suburban houses, Newcastle offers diverse housing options to suit every preference and budget. You can get pretty much anywhere in about 15 minutes and if you’re looking to escape, Newcastle Airport is just 25 minutes away and will connect you with Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and a host of regional destinations – even Lord Howe Island! And with airport expansion well underway, international destinations could be just around the corner. Sydney is just a few hours’ drive away and makes for a great weekend getaway.
